Thornbury Hamlets Community Charity
Commonly Asked Questions
You Ask. We Answer.
Where is Thornbury?
Thornbury sits in the heart of the north Devon countryside, within the district of Torridge. This is acknowledged as an area that suffers from deprivation in many ways: average income is at the low end of the national spectrum, our hospital is one of the most remote in the UK and we suffer from the housing shortage that besets the whole of the West Country. This is one of the motivations for the charity, to improve the well-being of our residents in this context.
Will a new hall be used?
The hall will be a modern, energy-efficient space, designed for the 21st century. It will cater for small group meetings as well as the usual activities commonly found in village halls.
Based on the input received through our Parish Plan research and public meetings, we are aware of the types of event that our residents would like to see. This includes short mat bowls, skittles, craft groups, exercise classes, computer classes, talks, parish council meetings, polling station, coffee mornings, parties, funeral teas, fund raising events, live entertainment and so on.
We are confident that the combination of low running costs, coupled with a desirable space will ensure that utilisation will be high.
How can I get involved?
See our Getting Involved page - there are many ways that you can help bring the dream of a new community hall to fruition, whilst playing a role in making Thornbury a great place to live, that values and caters for all ages and tastes.
