Events

Thornbury has two main events in the summer calendar that bring the village together - the lack of a hall means that we rely on our marquees and gazeboes to host these outdoor occasions.

The 'Big Lunch'

Since 2018, Thornbury has hosted a Big Lunch, part of the national initiative led by the Eden Project to strengthen communities across the country. Millions of people come together to celebrate their communities each year in May, and Thornbury is no exception. Residents come together to enjoy a 'bring and share' meal, with a varied and extensive buffet and a tempting array of desserts and cakes. Attendance has grown every year - it was much missed during the pandemic.

The Fun Day and Dog Show

The Thornbury “summer fete” is held on the third Saturday of July, and features our village dog show, along with all the usual fun and games of a “fun day”. We have a featured arena display, perhaps of sheep dogs, equestrianism or carriage driving, togther with static displays of vintage vehicles. A BBQ and bar help the day along, with cream teas for the more traditional palate.

Help is always needed to set up our marquees, run the stalls on the day, assist with the dog show, or with the catering.

Volunteering

Thornbury's events are run by a team of volunteers, who work hard to make them such a success. Its a great way to get to meet people in the village and make a difference to the well-being of the community.  If you would like to help, either contact the Secretary to the charity, or the Parish Clerk. You can be sure of a warm welcome
